Jo
and Phil purchased their Special wagon in December 92 from the original
owners, Mr & Mrs Les Jessett. The new vehicle was delivered
by City Motors in
Murray Street, Perth on 12 September 1963. The price including registration
for 12 months, all accessories and 8 gallons of petrol was £1381
14s 9p ($2763).
Les Jessett was over 80 years of age and due to poor health and
failing eye sight, the time had come to hand in his driving license
which he had held for over 60 years. Of course this also lead to
the Jessetts parting with their beloved EH wagon. It was a sad day
when Jo & Phil arrived to take possession. Les was in tears
but Phil promised that the vehicle was going to an EH enthusiast
and would be properly looked after as it had been for the previous
29 years. On the day prior to delivery Les Jessett had the EH serviced
(grease and oil change, new filters, plugs, points and motor tuned).
And yes the tank was full of fuel!
In
the glove box was the original Log Book which had been kept up to
date with all running and repair costs together with original purchase
Invoice and registration
papers
After
8 years of enjoyable motoring the time has come for Phil to take
his wagon of the road for a comprehensive bare metal respray. Phil
has commenced dismantling prior to sending the wagon to the shop.
So far only some minor surface rust has been found and it is hoped
that this is the eventual outcome for this part of the project Phil
will keep us informed of developments in later Newsletters.
